Body/Mind Psychotherapy & Trauma Recovery
TO HEAL IS TO MAKE WHOLE
Hakomi
Hakomi uses mindfulness to observe what’s happening moment to moment, and as a way to help us stay in and learn more about he actual experiencing that’s taking place. This allows us a direct, lived understanding of what we are experiencing. Hakomi is designed to assist you in studying the processes that automatically create and maintain the person you have become.o begin to heal is to see and experience what is fragmented inside you, compartmentalized, pushed away, or kept in the shadows - and to approach it not with missionary zeal or quick fix ambitions, but with patience and compassion.
Body-Psychotherapy is a distinct branch of psychotherapy that is quickly gaining attention due to it's great success in treating anxiety, depression, attachment disorders and trauma. Hakomi is a relationally rooted, integrated approach to psycho-therapeutic growth and healing. It takes into account all aspects of our selves - physical, mental, emotional, psychological, social/societal and spiritual and is thus "relational rooted" all parts being vital to the health of the whole person. More a mainstream modality in Europe, it has had a slower take in our American culture which emphasizes knowledge intellect as a foundation in body-mind healing.
Modern research is demonstrating that although talking and figuring out why one feels bad can be a helpful first step to understand what is going on, it is unlikely to change fundamentally how one physically experiences himself. New research (and age old technologies) is finding that familiarizing oneself with one's internal sensations and experimenting with changing them provide a vastly greater relief and positive therapeutic outcome than either medicine or understanding alone.
